Letter signed Francois Valle, St. Genevieve County, to John F. Darby, St. Louis, Mo. Regarding a tract of land. In Valle’s opinion, the price asked is extravagant. There is but a small portion of the land that is worth anything. It is the part owned by John Brown on which the lead has been discovered and the mill seat is situated; the remainder of the land may have lead on it but it is very hilly and broken with no tillable land. The land is owned by John Brown, Walter Brown, and a third party. Valle also asks Darby to mention to General Atchison that his (Valle’s) certificate may be wrong as he should receive the pension of a 2nd Lieutenant. [filed 1844], 1844 Nov 27
