Historical Sketch

Formed in 1923 in St. Louis, the People's Finance Corporation served African Americans who were denied credit or financing at historically white financial institutions. In 1926, the Corporation operated in the People's Finance Building at the corner of Jefferson and Market Avenues, 2333 Market Street. This building anchored the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood.
