Golden and Patricia Zike Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a diary, legal documents, souvenirs from the grand opening of St. Louis Union Station in 1985, and a napkin autographed by Liberace. The folders are arranged alphabetically by name. The items date from 1939 to 1985 with large date gaps from 1941 to 1951 and from 1954 to 1984.
Patricia Elmore wrote in a five-year diary from 2 January 1939 to 30 January 1941, when she was a pre-teen schoolgirl. Her entries were sporadic, writing daily for months and then not writing for a week or more. She mentioned school friends, family, and activities. On 30 October 1939, Patricia wrote about a fire in Jerseyville, Illinois, and on 29 May 1939, she received vaccinations for small pox and diptheria. The Golden Zike Jr. documents include the 1952 purchase agreement for Fahnestock’s Pharmacy and the cancelled check for $2500.00 written to Eugene Fahnestock. In 1953, Zike entered into a business building agreement with Walter Hale. The remaining items include a special souvenir ticket and envelope issued by the St. Louis Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society for the St. Louis Union Station grand opening in 1985. The only undated item in the collection is a napkin autographed by Liberace.Dates
