Jobyna Moore Foster Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection contains two items relating to Jobyna Moore Foster’s time at the Homer G. Phillips Hospital School of Nursing. The items date from 1955 to 1961 and are arranged chronologically.
The first item is Jobyna Moore’s “Black Book,” a practice book of all main operating room activities kept by student nurses, dated December 1955. It contains a table of contents to its extensive notes which include contents of trays, drawings of instruments, surgical formations, and daily assignments. The pages have been removed from the cover, which has been retained and appears at the end of the folder. The second item is a photocopy of a catalog for the Homer G. Phillips Hospital School of Nursing from the school year 1960-1961. The catalog lists faculty and lecturers, course descriptions, admission requirements, and more.Dates

Biographical Sketch
Jobyna Moore Foster is a native St. Louisan, the oldest of six daughters. She graduated from the Homer G. Phillips Hospital School of Nursing in September 1957. Foster worked at Homer G. Phillips Hospital until it closed in 1979, which included being a head nurse in the School of Nursing. She continued her nursing career at other area hospitals and medical clinics. In May 2018, at age 82, Foster graduated from Fontbonne University with a Master of Management and Leadership degree.
Foster is a past president of the Homer G. Phillips Nurse Alumni, Inc. and she appeared in the documentary, The Color of Medicine: The Story of Homer G. Phillips Hospital (2018). Foster is also a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
