Historical Sketch
Henry Shaw donated the land encompassing Tower Grove Park to the City of St. Louis in 1868 and it opened to the public in 1872. In April 2009, the St. Louis-Jefferson Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) placed a marker to recognize the historical significance of Tower Grove Park.
The St. Louis-Jefferson Chapter has served the St. Louis community since 1895. It is the oldest and largest chapter in the St. Louis area. The chapter’s local activities support the NSDAR mission to "promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism."Extent
