Historical Sketch

Founded in 2012, Tower Grove Pride is an annual LGBTQIA+ festival that started as a block party. By 2018, the event grew so large that it moved to Tower Grove Park. Tower Grove Pride is typically understood as an "independent" alternative to Pride St. Louis, which holds its festival in downtown St. Louis and relies heavily on corporate sponsorships. The Tower Grove Pride website explains its relationship to the 50 Roses Foundation: "Tower Grove Pride is organized under the Fifty Roses Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to raise awareness for other non-profits and causes that improve quality of life in the St. Louis region. Rick Ruderer is the Executive Director of the foundation. His leadership established the partnership with the festival in 2017." (https://www.towergrovepride.com/faq)
