Biographical Sketch
Ernest Bartholemeus Hoehn was born on 4 July 1891 in Carlinville, Illinois, to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hoehn. He became a registered pharmacist in the state of Illinois and worked for the Ralph Valentine Drug Store in East St. Louis. He resigned from the Valentine Drug Store when he enlisted in the medical corps of the U.S. Army. After the war, Hoehn and Fremont Hoehn opened the Hoehn Drug Company, a pharmacy and chemical analyst company in the property formerly occupied by Ralph Valentine at Collinsville and St. Clair Avenues. Eventually, it became the E.B. Hoehn Drug Store. In 1957, Ernest was forced to close the business due to the plans for the East St. Louis Expressway.
