The papers consist of one scrapbook and one letter received by Driscoll Pharmacy in 1928 that was delivered via airmail piloted by Charles Lindbergh. The scrapbook comprises the bulk of the collection and dates from 1920 to 1927, with the bulk of its items dating from 1922 to 1924. The scrapbook was disassembled for preservation purposes and page numbers were added. The collection is arranged chronologically and by scrapbook page number.

The scrapbook was kept by Helen Driscoll primarily during her years as a student at Lenox Hall, a school for girls at Trinity and Washington Avenues in University City. It dates from 1920 to 1927, covering all four years of Helen’s time at Lenox Hall and into her time at Washington University. The scrapbook contains lists of the names of other girls at Lenox Hall, various commencement programs, a partial diary of Helen's high school activities, photographs of the students and teachers, programs from theater performances that Helen attended, and many other papers, photographs, and ephemera regarding the school. The scrapbook also includes some of Helen’s schoolwork, gradebooks, greeting cards, photographs and other items from family vacations, and bridge tally cards from the numerous bridge parties that Helen attended.

The College Memory Book Co. in Chicago published the scrapbook which was personalized with “Lenox Hall” embossed on the cover along with “Helen Driscoll” in the bottom right corner. The first approximately thirty pages were pre-printed, prompting owners to record memories relating to school faculty, campus, athletics, entertainment, friends, and school calendar diary pages. The following approximately fifty sheets of the scrapbook were left blank for adding items. Several items have been removed from the scrapbook, with page numbers noted on each removed item, for preservation purposes (see Box 3). For example, many letters received by Helen during her recovery from appendicitis in November 1923 were removed from their envelopes which were pasted into the scrapbook (B.3/f.1-4). Please note that this scrapbook is not arranged chronologically and items relating to the same events, or to events that occurred in the same year, do not necessarily appear in a single group of pages. For example, items relating to the 1924 family vacation appear on pages 60-62 and also on pages 99-105.

The first pages of the scrapbook contain a Register of Names filled with Lenox Hall school friends, including birth dates and home addresses which show that several students came from out of state (e.g. Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kentucky). Helen added several photographs of teachers, school friends, school pageants, Lenox Hall graduation photos, and family vacations. She identified most individuals in her photos including a young African American girl, Catherine Jane Howell, who appeared in two photos with the Lenox Hall girls (p. 14, p. 37). Helen recorded all types of events at Lenox Hall with newsclippings, invitations, menus, photos, and party favors. There are school song lyrics from the three days that Lenox Hall rented the Pershing Theatre (p. 88) and issues of Lenox News (p. 130, 132) and Lenox Life (p. 131). In 1924, the junior class hosted a Colonial Tea for which the girls provided hand-painted napkins (p. 91). Some other events include Field Days, Senior Days, Christmas Luncheons, Halloween at Meramec Highlands (p. 20), commencement announcements, and pageants. She also saved invitations and favors from various themed parties hosted by her Lenox Hall friends. There are also newsclippings about Lenox Hall students (Josephine Gast Conzelman, Helen Norpoth, and Francis Marian Murray).

There are a few items about Washington University in the scrapbook and one booklet relating to the curriculum at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy (p. 125). Helen saved her invitation to join Washington University’s Asklepios club (p. 94) and programs from the Quadrangle Club performances in 1925 and 1926 (p. 132) and from the 1925 spring festival (p. 125).

Not everything in the scrapbook related to Helen’s school days. The Driscoll family vacations included a 1924 trip to the western United States, specifically Yellowstone National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the Great Salt Lake. They also visited Niagara Falls and Toronto in 1922 and in 1926. Helen included photographs, tourist brochures, and maps. Her interest in movies is revealed by the many newsclippings about Rudolph Valentino after his death in August 1926 (p. 134) and by an autographed photo of actor Eliot Dexter (p. 134). Other non-school related items include a Code of Morals for Young People and a 1922 campaign brochure from Senator James Reed (B.3/f.13), a girl scout pin (p. 84), a YMCA Camp Frihola letter won in 1922 (p. 84), newsclippings about the Queen of Romania’s visit to St. Louis in 1926, and clippings about Charles Lindbergh in 1926 and 1927 (B.3/f.18).

The February 21, 1928, letter is from Alfred S. Burdick, President of Abbott Laboratories, to Driscoll's Pharmacy. The envelope includes an ink stamp that says, "Lindbergh Again Flies the Air Mail." The letter starts with, "This letter will be carried to you, we hope, by Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh who is carrying the Air-Mail today from Chicago." Helen also saved a business card from Driscoll’s Drug Store (p. 133).
