Biographical Sketch
Pelagie Green Wren was born on 6 September 1942 to Marguerite and James Hudlin Green. In 1962, Mrs. Wren was the first African-American woman to dance in the chorus at The Muny. She also performed with the St. Louis Civic Ballet, the St. Louis Dance Theatre, the Israeli Harakuda Folk Dancers, and the Legend Singers. Mrs. Wren was a graduate of Harris Teachers College and taught physical education and dance in the St. Louis Public Schools for over 30 years. She also operated the Pelagie Green Wren Academy of Dance in mid-town St. Louis. Mrs. Wren died on 19 September 2013 and was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
