Collection consists of Charles Edward Pearce's record book of the St. Louis National Guard, 1872-1878, which includes petitions, printed Constitution and By-Laws of the St. Louis National Guard (1872 and 1874), correspondence, invitations, subscription lists, accounts, receipts, checks, muster rolls, and other items.

Biographical Sketch
Charles Edward Pearce was born May 29, 1842, in Whitestown, Oneida County, New York. He served as an officer in Battery D, 16th New York Heavy Artillery, in the Civil War and came to St. Louis in 1866. He commanded the St. Louis National Guard in 1875 and organized the 1st Regiment, Missouri National Guard, in 1877. He served in the U.S. Congress from 1897 to 1901. He died January 30, 1902, in St. Louis.
