Scope and Contents

The Fiorita Family Papers consist primarily of correspondence written to or by Nicholas Fiorita. Correspondents include girlfriends, Army friends, former schoolmates, teachers, and family members. The letters include information about Nick’s time spent stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky; his school years at Georgetown University; his travels and work in Tehran and Bangkok; and other personal affairs and activities. Primary correspondents include James Carow, LaDona Heieck, and Fr. F.W. Benoit. The collection also contains account books of Frank Fiorita relating to the A.R. Fiorita Produce Company and letters to Lina Fiorita regarding her work with the Republican Women’s Club of Missouri.

Biographical Sketch

Nicholas Rocco Fiorita was the son of Frank and Lina Fiorita. He attended St. Louis University High School. After graduating from SLUH in 1945, he was stationed with the Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, from 1945-1946. After his service, Nick attended the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri. In the fall of 1948, Nick began attending school at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he was enrolled in the School of Foreign Service. Upon graduating, Nick went to work at the American Embassy in Tehran, Iran. After his work there, he began work in Bangkok. The last letters of the collection have Nick living in Kansas City, Missouri. Nick passed away on December 10, 2001.

Donor Information

The papers of Frank Fiorita were donated by his daughter, Ina, in 2006. She donated the rest of the collection in 2007.
