Link-Hall Family Papers
Scope and Contents
The collection consists primarily of letters written to Robert R. Link and his wife Eliza J. Link mostly from friends, political acquaintances, and colleagues. Several letters discuss Prohibition Party activities in Illinois in 1892. The collection also contains three typescript letters of the Prickly Ash Bitters Co. to Robert F. Hall and several postcards.

Biographical Sketch
Robert R. Link was born on December 4, 1832, in Wilson County, Tennessee, and was the youngest of six children. He attended Wilson County High School and later went to Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. In 1861, he moved to Ewing, Illinois, where he married Eliza J. Webb the following year. They had a total of six children, one of whom was a daughter, Nancy, who married Robert F. Hall. Robert R. Link helped found Ewing College in 1868 and filled the office of secretary until his death in 1893. He was an active member of the Prohibition Party and ran for state treasurer on the Prohibition ticket in 1890 and for governor in 1892. Link was also a gifted speaker and gave many speeches relating to prohibition.

Donor Information
The collection was donated to the Missouri Historical Society by Thomas Staples in 2001. The papers were found by the donor in homes in his capacity as a real estate agent.
