Scope and Contents
The Mosby Monroe Parsons Papers consist primarily of family correspondence and papers regarding Parsons' Division in the Civil War. The collection also contains the Civil War–era diaries of Dr. and Mrs. Robert J. Bell.

Biographical Sketch
Mosby Monroe Parsons was born May 21, 1821, in Charlottesville, Virginia, and as a young man moved to Cole County, Missouri, where he studied law. After serving in the Mexican War, he served in the state senate and as state attorney general. During the Civil War he commanded the 6th Division, Missouri State Guard, and a brigade in Price's army. Austin M. Standish, Parsons' brother-in-law, served as his chief of staff. Following the war Parsons traveled with several of his men to Mexico where he was killed in August 1865.

Donor Information
The bound volume containing the register of officers of Parsons' Division was donated by Mildred Parsons Standish in June 1906. Acquisition information regarding the remainder of the collection is not available.
