- Hamilton Rowan Gamble Papers | Letter signed H.R. Gamble, Jefferson City, to Lt. Col. Lazear. [Copy] I learn that a band of 30, thieves and robbers, infest the county of Johnson in which you are stationed. Eighteen have been already arrested. I ask you to arrest the remaining men and place them in the penitentiary, rather than killing them, as a punishment that would deter others from engaging in similar crimes. The men are in the eastern part of Johnson County. List of names of the marauders. Individuals mentioned include George Bomar, Jesse Bomar, John Kisner, Big John Ragner, William Pullam Jr., James S. Noakes, Doyle Maddox, Joseph Mulkey, David Amick, William Powell, Thomas H. Donald, Joshua Donald. Places mentioned include Jefferson City. (2 pages), 1863 Nov 24
