- Hamilton Rowan Gamble Papers | Letter signed Willard P. Hall, St. Louis, to [Gov. Gamble?]. I agree with you that the Provisional regiments should be relieved as soon as it is possible to do so. Some troops will have to be kept in service. Could it not be well to permit recruiting from the Provisional regiment for the U.S. service? By doing this, a sufficient number of soldiers could be speedily transferred from the state to the U.S. service to keep all quiet in Missouri. The Radicals are quite active. Our friend Loan is out for the U.S. Senate. His meetings begin with denouncing the Provisional Government and by recommending himself. He will have a good time of it next winter with the Legislature. Individuals mentioned include Genl. Benj. Loan. Subjects mentioned include Provisional regiments, Radicals. (2 pages), 1863 Aug 19
