- Hamilton Rowan Gamble Papers | Letter signed Ham. Gamble, Washington City, to Father. Mr. Gibson and Mr. Henderson and Mr. Rollins called on Mr. Lincoln again about our Missouri affairs and demanded that Gen. Curtis should be removed immediately, threatening to oppose him [Lincoln] if it were not done. Mr. Lincoln finally said that he would issue a positive order to Sec. Stanton to remove him. Stanton and Halleck are always putting obstacles in the way and trying to stave us off. Gen. Henderson left his morning for Jefferson City. I think he deserves well of you for the firm way he has stood up for you here. Gen. Henderson has always cooperated with Mr. Gibson and Uncle Bates in resisting assaults upon you. Individuals mentioned include Mr. Gibson, Mr. Henderson, Mr. Rollins, Mr. Lincoln, Sec. Stanton, Gen. Halleck, Uncle Bates. Places mentioned include Jefferson City. (2 pages), 1863 Mar 6
