- Hamilton Rowan Gamble Papers | Letter signed J.M. Schofield, Headquarters Army of the Frontier, Springfield, to Governor [Gamble]. I presume you are aware of the schemes now on foot relative to a change in command in this Department. The project is to get the Department under Kansas control. Discussion of the plan Curtis and Blunt are seemingly working to establish Blunt in command. When I left St. Louis Curtis insisted upon my coming here, not knowing I had been nominated for Major General. Mention of Herron and Blunt in the plan. Individuals mentioned include Maj. Genl. Samuel R. Curtis, Maj. Genl. James G. Blunt, Brig. Genl. Francis J. Herron. (2 pages), 1863 Feb 2
