- Hamilton Rowan Gamble Papers | Letter signed C. Gibson, Washington, to Gov. Gamble. Encloses a copy of a letter which he has just written to Hon. Edwin M. Stanton, Sec. of War. In this letter [Gibson] says that the Governor of Missouri has requested money for the purpose of supplying the enrolled militia, while in actual service, with such articles as they can not impress from the enemy. “The amount he calls for is $250,000. I deem it indispensable to his support in the attempt to render the militia useful in preserving peace in the state.” Individuals mentioned include General Davidson, Governor Gamble.
