- Hamilton Rowan Gamble Papers | Letter signed J.B. Henderson, Washington, to H.R. Gamble. Thanks him for his stand on the President’s proposition on emancipation. Thinks it is the approval that counts whether the state does anything of a practical character towards the abolishment of slavery or not. “It puts the government of our state in accord with the federal government. It secures us position here.” Goes on to say “There is no reason why we cannot sustain Mr. Lincoln in such things as commend themselves to our judgment.” Individuals mentioned include Mr. Lincoln. Places mentioned include Missouri. (5 pages), 1862 June 16
