- Hamilton Rowan Gamble Papers | Letter signed Ben Loan, Brigadier General, Headquarter District of Northwestern Missouri, St. Joseph, Missouri, to Governor H.R. Gamble. I have understood that through the intercession of influential gentlemen of St. Louis Colonel Catherwood procured his appointment to office and was sent to Cameron on the line of the Hannibal & St. Joseph Railroad. He must be removed. Accompanying papers will sufficiently show you the necessity for the immediate removal of Colonel Catherwood. I send them by my aider Major Severance. Should you decline to remove Colonel Catherwood I shall be compelled to have him tried by a Courts martial. In this connection I suggest you send to M.L. James a commission as Major. With all his faults I believe him to be the best man who has been at Cameron. (2 pages), 1862 Apr 7
