- Hamilton Rowan Gamble Papers | Letter signed H.R. Gamble, Jefferson City, to Barton [J.B.] Gamble. Your people must be easily made secessionists if they are ready to join the Southern army or Jackson’s forces as soon as Colonel Gale or some other person says something that does not suit their fancy. Neither Colonel Gale nor any other person has any authority conferred upon him to make a draft for troops. When that is to be done, it will be under a general order issued from headquarters and published in all the papers. Your half secessionists need not take to the brush yet. [Copy] (1 page), 1861 Oct 2
