Guest Register - Blank, 1904

 Item — Box: 12, Volume: 12

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection is comprised of twelve guest registers for the Missouri Building at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. The volumes date from April 30 to October 17, 1904, and are arranged chronologically by the date listed on the first page in each volume. Each volume has a number notation either on the frontispiece or the front flyleaf. Volume 12 has no entries; each page is blank. Buxton & Skinner Stationery Company of St. Louis produced the books that guests signed when they visited the Missouri Building. The dates in the volumes overlap, implying that there were at least two registers available for guests to sign. Some of the volumes have gilded spines printed with the title, “Missouri Building Register,” and the names and hometowns of the men who served on the Missouri Commission to the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Each page in the registers is printed with the heading, “Missouri State Building Register – World’s Fair, 1904.” Guests were asked to complete the following information: Name / Home Address, which specifically asked for Post Office, County, and State / and Temporary City Address. For example, Mr./Mrs. Harris, from Pennsylvania, signed the register as follows: W. S. Harris / West Chester, Chester Co., Pa. / 3749 Windsor Place. Most often, only out of town guests provided a street address, recording the place in which they resided while visiting St. Louis.
