Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
The collection is comprised of correspondence and memos, newspaper clippings, printing industry job descriptions, and a large number of business cards. It is arranged alphabetically by topic and dates from 1970 to 1997.
The small collection includes materials that relate to Sicking’s professional activities in the printing industry, to his involvement with veterans’ organizations, and to controversy surrounding the VP Fair in 1988. Sicking collected a 1970 essay about small job printing, job descriptions found in a Butler Paper Company folder, and large number of St. Louis business cards presumably used in the course of his job duties. The 1903rd Engineer Aviation Battalion SCARWAF (Special Category Army with Air Force) reunion was held in St. Louis in 1997, and the souvenir booklet’s contents includes special memories, news, roll call, and in memoriam. Materials relating to Sicking’s memberships in veterans’ associations include a small amount of information about his VFW post, the Korean War Veterans Association, and the Korena War Memorial in Forest Park (please note, the City’s committee referred to the memorial as a monument). Items relating to the Korean War Veterans Association include a copy of Congressional Resolution 318 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the end of the Korean War, labels entitled, “The Forgotten War,” and correspondence about creating the first Missouri chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association. Sicking was a member of the Korean War Monument Restoration Committee that worked to restore the neglected monument in Forest Park. The memorial work was completed in 1989. Correspondence, reports, and clippings about the memorial and its state of disrepair; the committee’s work and meetings; and an architectural plan of the new design date from 1985 to 1989.Dates
