TransGeek Documentary – Advertising Card / QFest Program, 2019

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 11

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection consists primarily of ephemeral items produced for public distribution, such as brochures, fliers, advertising and business cards, programs, stickers, and newspaper clippings. The collection dates from 2015 to 2021 and is arranged alphabetically. A 2015 calendar includes photographs from the Metro Trans Umbrella Group (MTUG), such as T-shirt logos, the first art show, and its participation in a march in response to Ferguson. Most of the photographs are labelled, but unfortunately several of the labels are partially obscured by the calendar’s binding. Event brochures and fliers in the collection are for the MTUG annual telethon and art show, a trans-queer prom, and the trans and gender-free pride march. Newspaper clippings cover 2019 PrideFest, for which Pride St. Louis selected MTUG as the grand marshal, and gender-affirming healthcare at Planned Parenthood. In 2018, MTUG co-founder Sayer Johnson received the James Baldwin Committee Educator Award at the James M. Holobaugh Honor Ceremony. Johnson, along with Kevin McCarthy, directed the documentary TransGeek, which was shown during the twelfth annual QFest St. Louis in 2019. Johnson, along with Rae Larson, Ren Wilding, Jaimie Hileman, and others from MTUG, participated in the program for Washington University’s Transgender Spectrum Conferences.
