Scope and Content
The Gorrell Starke Clinger diaries range chronologically from 1901 to 1965, except for the years 1908, 1918, 1932, and 1955, which are not included in the collection. Gorrell Starke Clinger’s diaries cover her adult life living in St. Louis, Mo., and St. Joseph, Mich. The diaries consist of bound volumes and composition notebooks. Clinger writes about her family and life and has information about the 1904 World’s Fair, the 1927 tornado, flooding in St. Louis, presidential nominations, Kingdom House, Veiled Prophet balls and parades, golf in St. Louis, the family Busy Bee Candy Store at 314 DeBaliviere, astronauts, and Geitner Home.
The collection also contains scrapbooks in composition notebooks from the years 1949-1953 and 1955 with newspaper clippings, cards, and programs as well as two oversize folders housing documents found in the diaries and scrapbooks.
