Typescript titled "Copy of the Letters and Journal of Henry Atkinson Stine on His Overland Trip to California from St. Louis to Sacramento, May 4, 1850, to October 25, 1850." Consists of a typescript copy of the Henry A. Stine journal and the letters he wrote to his mother (described previously in this inventory). This typescript also includes a one-page biographical sketch of Henry A. Stine and reproductions of three maps showing the progress of a wagon train from the vicinity of Fort Madison, Iowa, to Salt Lake City. Scope and Contents
The collection consists primarily of the overland journal and correspondence of Henry Atkinson Stine to his mother, dated 1850, which recount his experiences on an overland journey with the Glenn & Co. wagon train from Independence, Missouri, to California. The collection also contains the notebook of Mary Ann Garrett Stine (daughter of Jacob R. and Emily Stine) while attending Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri, in 1838; other papers of the Stine family; and a typescript copy of the journal of Micajah Littleton, who also traveled on the Glenn & Co. wagon train from Independence to California in 1850.
