Scope and Contents
The collection consists of correspondence, deeds, a minute and land assessment book, legal papers relating to the property of Charles B. Gratiot and family, and the records of the Gratiot Square Realty and Improvement Company in St. Louis. Among the items included in the collection are papers concerning the acquisition of land by Sandy Annis (a veteran of the 70th U.S. Colored Troops Civil War regiment), correspondence and documents relating to a legal dispute that resulted in the case of Gerlach v. Jones in 1905, and papers concerning the estate of Harry N. Ferry. The minute and land assessment book contains the minutes of the stockholders meetings (1907-1936) and an undated list of land assessments on lands belonging to the Gratiot family.
