Letter signed Jno. Dougherty, Clay County, Mo., to [Jno. G.] Shultz. “I consider your communication a long, bitter, ill-natured, uncalled for and unjust document.” As to your being a tool for Swords and myself I know nothing about it. I have never interfered and left everything to your own judgment. I think the best solution is to divide our property and each manage his own part to his own notion. In the past I have always been willing to submit matters to arbitration but with such threats and insinuations hanging over me, even if I considered your claim a just one, I would not do so. When you withdraw your offensive communication, I will not then hesitate to refer the matter to men. Individuals mentioned: P.R. Bean. Places mentioned: Iatan., 1854 Jan 26
