Letter signed George H. Hall, St. Joseph, to Mary [Hall]. My wife [Sallie Hall] is ill; her cousin, Sallie Moss, is dying of consumption. The German Catholic Church [St. Joseph, Mo.], opposite my house, is nearly completed externally. It is the finest church in this city, I think. We have had the greatest amount of fruit this year—grapes 6 to 10 cents per pound, peaches 40 to 80 cents per bushel, and apples 50 cents per bushel. This is considered the best grape-producing country in the West…next year a great amount of wine will be made here. We are building a railroad from St. Joseph to Council Bluffs, Iowa, up the Missouri River. It will be completed next summer. Individuals mentioned: Willard [P. Hall], Ollie [Hall], Mr. Bryan, and Lydia [Marmion]., 1867 Sept 24
