Letter signed George H. Hall, St. Joseph, to Mary [Hall] and sister [Lydia Marmion]. Family news. Willard and Anne [Hall] are well, also Mrs. Richardson and the Major. Willard lost about 500 bushels of wheat in the wet weather…has finished cutting his hemp—a tolerable crop. The Kansas Legislature have passed some of the most devilish acts that ever disgraced the statute book of any country. I think it would be hard to find a more corrupt set. On the eighteenth of this month there will be a Tournament; on the 19th, 20th, 21st, will be the Fair. What do you think of people of this age trying to ape the manners and customs of the dark ages? I want to buy Land Warrants this winter…if Dr. [Nickolas] Marmion should hear of any (cheap) around Harpers Ferry, I will send money to buy them., 1855 Sept 6
