Tobacco, No date

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 9

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection consists of advertising and packaging literature printed by the San-Del Printing Company from circa 1917 to 1930. The publications are arranged alphabetically by the name of client/company with the exception of tobacco-related advertisements/packaging which are placed in a single folder. Much of the collection is undated.

The publications include packing labels, stickers, product image/sales sheets, brochures of all sizes, large broadsides printed in black and white and in color, and one event program (f.5). The earliest broadsides printed for the Laclede-Christy Clay Products Company date from approximately 1917, and urge its customers to order in advance, mentioning conscription and anticipated strains on transportation as the U.S. entered World War I (f.4). There are several travel brochures for the Eagle Packet Company which explain the amenities of its steamboats when river travel was popular (f.2). Two large broadsides promote the land near Tahena and Oakhurst in the Oklahoma oil fields being developed by the O.C. Graves Development Company (f.5). There are also several pieces for Stix, Baer & Fuller and the Standard Tank Car Company. San-Del created one of the most unique advertisements for itself, an image of a window with a sliding covering which reveals the message (f.6).
