Membership Cards, A-H, 1950s

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 1

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection is comprised of approximately 190 membership cards, a transcript of the cards, and photocopies of a group photo of the Perry County Club of St. Louis dating from circa 1947 to circa 1955.

The front of the cards is titled, “Application for Membership,” and request name, phone number, marital status, number of children, residential address, business address, firm, position, qualification (for membership), and “proposed by” or reference. For many cards, members did not complete all the information, filling out only the name and address portion of the cards. The verso of the cards is titled, “Qualifications for Membership:” “Any person (Caucasian) of good personal repute who resided in Perry County, Missouri, for at least one year, or who has married a Perry Countian, or who is a descendant of a Perry Countian, is eligible to Membership in this club.” It also mentions that club dues were to be paid in August, but does not specify an amount.

There are two photocopies of a group photograph of the Perry County Club that was possibly taken at the Pelican Restaurant (South Grand Avenue) in 1947 or 1948. The donor identified nine individuals in the photo, including himself and his parents.
