Letter signed Simons to Simeon. Cholera epidemic. In case of a death in our family you will be notified by telegraph. We can’t keep enough brandy and port in bottles since the cholera. The Board of Health doesn’t report one half of the cases. Charles Collins has died and many of the Eastern gold hunters on the way to California have fallen amongst us and the river banks are becoming strewn with graves., 1849 May 9
