Letter signed T.K. Skinker, St. Louis, to wife, Biloxi, Mississippi. Pursuant to appointment, Mr. Geo. Farrand Taylor [George Farrand Taylor] preached to us today about Holy Cross House. He laid great stress on the dispensary as a most useful part of the institution, and, calling Cote by name, gave her full credit as the founder. Mr. Brooking came in & talked to Bella and me this afternoon for an hour, discussing Washington University, Smith Academy and Manual Training School and Secretary Houston in very interesting style, and at length. Manual Training School has gone down entirely. . . . Mr. B. dealt with evident pleasure upon the promotion of Prof. Hall to be chancellor. He said he was satisfied that it was his duty to the nation to give up his hold on Houston. He thinks Houston will be secretary of the treasury in the next cabinet., 1916 Jan 21
Scope and Contents
The collection consists primarily of Skinker family correspondence, the bulk of which is between Thomas K. Skinker and his wife, Bertha Rives Skinker. The collection also contains several folders of tax receipts of Thomas Skinker dated 1839-1886. This finding aid was compiled by keying in the document descriptions on the folder covers. These document descriptions were presumably written by a Missouri Historical Society archivist soon after the collection was purchased in 1978.
