Letter signed T.K. Skinker, Grottoes, Virginia, to wife, 6300 Forsyth Ave., St. Louis. Describes jaunts over Virginia battlefields (Front Royal, Port Republic). In Front Royal we found a very handsome monument to all the men born in that [Warren] county who served in the Confederate army, including Major John N. Edwards of Shelby’s Missouri Brigade & several other men who served in other Missouri regiments., 1911 Nov 4
Scope and Contents
The collection consists primarily of Skinker family correspondence, the bulk of which is between Thomas K. Skinker and his wife, Bertha Rives Skinker. The collection also contains several folders of tax receipts of Thomas Skinker dated 1839-1886. This finding aid was compiled by keying in the document descriptions on the folder covers. These document descriptions were presumably written by a Missouri Historical Society archivist soon after the collection was purchased in 1978.
