On February 6, 1963, Elizabeth takes a train to Albuquerque and visits Mexico, Redlands; she visits with Aunt Tom and Sophie. She travels around the Southwest, including Scottsdale, Arizona, and returns March 10. On March 27, Bun tries to get a driver’s license but fails. On April 3, Elizabeth checks out a property in southern Missouri at the Ozarks and Rolla. She travels to Greenville for the Easter holiday. On April 11, she drives to South Carolina and visits Ashley Hall School in Charleston for Bun, but there is no room. On Easter, she takes a boat trip to Fort Sumter. In early May, she takes a trip to Excelsior Spring in Arkansas. She signs papers for a new bathroom on May 8. On May 16, she listens to space race news. She gardens almost every day. Bun starts volunteering at the hospital. On August 6, Elizabeth has a Beer Bust for 30 guests and has German songs for entertainment. She talks with a lawyer about the custody suit. Bun starts dating [possibly Carl?]. Aunt Tom dies August 17, and Elizabeth goes to the funeral and memorial service. In early to mid-September, she takes a river boat tour. On September 26, she visits Greenville, South Carolina, and Sam shows her the new home. She leaves for New York. On November 22, she looks at new furniture and puts down a deposit. The radio broadcasts about President Kennedy’s death., 1963

The collection contains 14 diaries written by Elizabeth Nulsen Young. The diaries cover the years 1917 to 1976 and briefly list her day-to-day activities. Each diary includes five years, with the exception of one travel diary of a trip to Europe in 1956 and the last diary (1976), which only contains one calendar year.
