From July 3-5, 1956, Elizabeth visits Copenhagen. Elizabeth takes a tour of the city, goes to a museum with crown jewels, visits a castle, and meets another tourist, Marjorie Rose. From July 6-8, she travels to Gothenburg and Oslo. From July 9-11, she stops at tourist attractions in Karlstad and Falun. On July 10, Elizabeth writes, “Stopped for visit to home of writer Selma Lagerlof – a surprisingly pretty country house.” On July 12, she arrives at the Carlton Hotel in Stockholm and stays there until July 16. While there she tours the city on boat. On July 16-19, she stops at many small towns on a trip to Amsterdam. From July 19-26, Elizabeth stays at Hotel Fleissig in Amsterdam. When she arrives she is not impressed by the hotel and calls it an “expensive dump.” While there, she goes to a cheese auction and views Rembrandt pictures and his house, Van Gogh sketches, the Franz Halz Museum, and a ballet. From the Collection:

The collection contains 14 diaries written by Elizabeth Nulsen Young. The diaries cover the years 1917 to 1976 and briefly list her day-to-day activities. Each diary includes five years, with the exception of one travel diary of a trip to Europe in 1956 and the last diary (1976), which only contains one calendar year.
