Letter signed Reuben Lewis, Fort Osage, to Mrs. Lucy Marks, Albemarle County, Virginia. Writes of his position as contractor’s agent. He believes that dealing in Indian goods will make him “from 800 to 1000 dollars per year.” If not, he will not stay there. Also writes of his health and a cut he recently received from an axe, as well as his newfound pleasure of female society, resulting from his friend Mr. Sibley’s recent marriage. Hopes that his letter is received before his mother sets out for Georgia, and would like news of Albemarle. “Set some of them to writing me a long letter about anything or nothing whatever comes uppermost.” (2 pages), 1816 Sept 29
