Letter signed William D. Meriwether, Richmond, to John Marks, Albemarle, Virginia. He has received a letter from Mr. Coles in Washington announcing the arrival of Meriwether Lewis’s trunks and papers. They have found a will dated the 11th of September which leaves everything to his mother and supposes that it is not his last will. His private papers will be sent to Mr. Jefferson, and then to William at Albemarle. William goes on to say his watch and other things of value General Clark or Mr. Coles will take to Albemarle with them, everything relating to the expedition is put in the hands of General Clark.” Has an order on the treasurer for the interest on John Marks’s warrant and will send the money when desired.
