Letter signed Meriwether Lewis to Reuben Lewis, Wilks County, Georgia. He is sorry it is out of his power to come and see him by reason of being at school. He was at Parson Maury’s until after Christmas, and then fully expected to stay six months longer at least, if not another year “but Cousin William D. Meriwether said that he did not think it worth while as I had got well acquainted with the English Grammar, and mite learn Geography at home.” He will stay at Uncle Gilmer’s and go to school in order to get acquainted with figures.
