Karst [Emile Karst], 2736 Geyer Avenue, St. Louis, to my dear Mr. Byars, Kirkwood, Missouri, requesting Byars to write the words to be sung by school children at the dedication of the statue “Lafayette and Washington” at the French Society. The music is to be composed by Gounod. Karst also mentions that Mr. McCreery suggested Byars and Karst compose a national hymn., 1893 July 22
