Document signed John F. Darby, Mayor of St. Louis. Concerning a resolution passed in the Board of Aldermen to the effect of the Mayor’s communication on the subject of a county meeting being referred to a select committee with instructions to draft an address to the people of St. Louis County setting forth the great advantages which must inevitably flow from the city, county, and state from a speedy survey and location of the proposed railroad from the city to Fayette in Howard County. Includes an invitation to attend a meeting to be held in the Court House on Thursday, the 3rd of March, to appoint delegates to a convention to be held by delegates from all the counties through which said road may pass., 1836 Feb 25

This collection consists largely of the papers of John F. Darby and his wife Mary F. Darby, and relates mostly to the political, social, and business history of St. Louis. The papers also include family correspondence with relatives in North Carolina, Kentucky, and Missouri, and correspondence regarding legal and business matters. Of special note are the minute books of the Jefferson Society and the St. Louis Debating Club (1827-1828), both regional debating societies of which Darby was a member; letters of Mary F. Darby; correspondence with Montgomery Blair, William T. Sherman, and George Caleb Bingham; and fragments of a history of the Mormons by John Corrill, dated 1839.
