Letter of Iola Franklin (unsigned), St. Louis, to Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Washington, D.C. Regarding Franklin's desire to enter the governmental service either as a mail plane pilot or War Department flyer. Two years ago, she suggested the War Department offer opportunity to a limited number of women aviators for schooling and military service. They concluded that the air training camp at San Antonio, Texas, was only adapted to men, and the Secretary of War concluded "like most men, in the consideration of any new women's activity, 'that it simply would not do.'" Franklin acknowledges her letter is presumptive but she is endeavoring to open up a new field for women. Mentions Bernard Von Hoffman, Lt. M.R. Bouse, Mr. Gebhart, and Mrs. W. Jaeger. (photocopy) (gift of Mrs. Harold F. Kearns, February 25, 1977; accession no. 77-0009), 1934 Feb 17
