The Chinese people are nice, as well as the Indians and the people from South Africa. He tried to understand some of the languages, but he is having a hard time understanding Chinese. The collection contains items relating to the operation of H. Holthaus & Co. winery in Gray Summit, Mo., by August J. Holthaus and his family; a postcard depicting the Liberal Arts Building at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis; poll books for 1936, 1938, and 1942 elections in Gray Summit, Mo.; a flier of the St. Louis Municipal Opera for the 26th Annual Season, 1944; and a scrapbook regarding the service of August R. Holthaus in World War II, containing postcards, photographs, letters, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous memorabilia from his time serving in China and India as part of the Army Air Force Air Transport Command.
