Letters of Richard Ackerman to his parents in New Brunswick, New Jersey, include accounts of the affairs of the regiment while serving in Virginia and Baltimore. Letter dated June 11, [1861], contains a description of the engagement at Big Bethel, Virginia. Letters also contain descriptions of marches and fighting during the Peninsular Campaign; and information on camp life and diet.
