Letter signed Charles O. Gerrish, St. Louis, to Stephanus. Account of trip to St. Louis, mention of the German population as the ruling element; this is a decidedly fast city, two cases of suicide are reported in the morning’s paper. Out west the editors indulge in the vilest kind of blackguardism; the papers of Quincy, especially, are hardly fit for a man to take home. Places mentioned: Augusta, Ga.; Savannah, Ga.; Richmond, Va.; Cherokee County, Ga.; Cincinnati, Ohio River, Philadelphia, and Portland., 1858 July 30
