Letter signed Dr. Pryor Quarles, St. Louis, to Dabney Minor, near Charlottesville, Va. Two million acres of land to be offered for sale here next fall [probably September] on either side of the river and I recommend that you locate here instead of Alabama or any other part of the United States. Discussion of farming conditions, wheat, and flour which sells for $1 and $10 a barrel. I have sold out my drug and medical store and shall commence farming this fall. Population increase in Howard County, from 300 of three years ago, but by a late census it now contains upward of 7000., 1818 May 28
