Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection consists of papers signed and/or written by United States presidents. They were gathered together because of their signatures, not because of the content of the documents. The two boxes contain papers from James Madison through Richard Nixon. The papers vary from land grants to appointments to offices. There are many letters included in this collection that were written to friends and well-wishers. In the oversize folder, there are news clippings about President John F. Kennedy and a program printed for President Woodrow Wilson’s visit to Manchester, England on December 27, 1918. The first volume is from the Bixby collection and is entitled “Original Letters and Documents of the Presidents of the United States.” It contains signatures of presidents from George Washington through William Howard Taft. The second volume is Grover Cleveland’s speech for the Young German Men's Association in Buffalo, New York on March 11, 1901.
