Biography

Carl Lippman was born in Germany on January 6, 1887, one of six children of Herman and Jaquette Lippman. He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1890. They settled in St. Louis, and Lippman became a naturalized citizen in 1914. He entered a career as a paper salesman, before being drafted in World War I. During the war, he served overseas with the 153rd Infantry and QMC Labor Company 5. After returning from the war, he was among the delegates at the May 1919 American Legion St. Louis Caucus. He remained active with many veterans’ organizations, including the Société des quarante hommes et huit chevaux (40 and 8) and the American Legion, where he served as post adjutant for the Oliver Guy Vassar Post No. 143.

Lippman married Rose Epstein (1890/1891-1991) about 1920, when he was 33 and she was 29. The couple’s daughter, Jacquette, was born about 1926. Lippman died in St. Louis on February 9, 1969 and is buried in New Mount Sinai Cemetery.
