Biography

Dorothy immigrated to the United States from Russia with her family when she was a child. She attended Central High School in St. Louis and after graduation worked as a secretary and translator at Rice Stix and Co., a wholesale dry goods store at 10th St. and Washington Ave. She married Samuel Roth on December 18, 1924, and the couple had three children: Florine, Annette, and Harold. Dorothy passed away in 1982.

This collection contains 2 photographs showing Dorothy Yawitz, Samuel Roth, and their wedding party on December 18, 1924. The wedding party includes a best man, maid of honor, and two flower girls. Yawitz is wearing a flapper-style wedding dress with flower-shaped embroidery and heavy beading, as well as a long, tulle veil. The dress was purchased for Dorothy in France by a buyer from Famous-Barr.
